The intowns

An industrial brownfield site, 90 Woodside Avenue, will be transformed into a medium-density residential development with 128 townhouses.

Buildings will vary from three storeys or five storeys, depending on the townhouse. Each unit will be of a high architectural quality, and designed so they have units a unique identity and character. A new park space will be created, featuring play areas and structures.

90 Woodside Avenue is located east of Queen Street and north of Highland Road. It was home to Canada Blower and Forge and then Howden Fans until the 1990s, when Howden Fans closed their operations and the old industrial building and property remained vacant.

Arrow Lofts

Auburn Developments is converting one of Kitchener’s landmark factories -- the Arrow shirt factory at 112 Benton Street -- into unique loft condominiums. In addition, a luxury, high-rise apartment building will be erected on the site.

As part of the redevelopment, the four-storey factory will have a four-storey, stepped-back addition (for a total of eight storeys). The addition will be in the same architectural style of the existing building, matching the brick façade and window fenestration. Balconies will not be “hung” on the building but, rather, will be “inset” within the existing large window openings to create solarium balconies.

A total of 145 loft apartment units are being built with minimum 12-foot ceilings. Unit sizes will range from 900 to 1,300 square feet with a variety of open concept unit designs. Some units, for example, will be completely open concept with elevated loft bedrooms overlooking the entire apartment -- the only walls will be bathrooms. The top two floors of the building are proposed to be two-storey units, with a fantastic view of downtown Kitchener and Victoria Park.
