Clarissa Diokno DTK Staycation
Clarissa, a local musician and foodie, shares how she spends a perfect Saturday in Downtown Kitchener. In her own words...
I love living in Downtown Kitchener. I feel so connected to the community, and I love experiencing all that it has to offer. Whether it’s the beautiful murals throughout the city, a peaceful stroll through the park, or a tasty drink on a patio … there is so much DTK has to offer. I am thankful for the opportunity to document a day in DTK and support some of my favourite local businesses as well as check out some that I haven’t had the chance to before.
I started the day by walking over to Cafe Pyrus with a friend for some vegan breakfast wraps and iced lattes. It was a beautiful, sunny morning so we decided to eat our breakfast at Victoria Park with a view of the fountain and clock tower.
The fashionistas in us wanted to embrace our love for vintage fashion and headed over to White Tiger Vintage. They have a great system going where you have to book an appointment to come in and only three people can be in the store at a time. I had a great experience here and even walked away with a beautiful new dress!
We were getting hungry so I made a patio reservation at La Cucina for some drinks and appetizers. They also have a great system going where they have three different seating times you can book for their patio. We ordered two Shirley Temple mocktails and the “Salumi e formaggi” (charcuterie board) for two.
I thought I would conclude my night by watching a movie with a friend at Apollo Cinema. They had just reopened and it’s been a while since I’ve watched a movie in a theatre. They put some safety guidelines into place that work really well. We ordered popcorn, chose our seats (all groups are seated at a safe distance from each other), and watched their last screening of the evening. This was the perfect ending to my night exploring and experiencing the wonderful community of DTK!
