Plantiful_KW DTK Staycation
Justine from @plantiful_kw and friends set out on a vegan edition of a DTK Staycation! Here's how Justine describes her experience...
We started our day with a class at Cyclone Spin Studio. If you're looking for a workout to get you pumped for your day, this is the spot for you. If you're looking for something more low-key, I recommend a yoga or barre class at Big Bliss.
After working up an appetite at our spin class, we hit up Cafe Pyrus for iced coffees, a vegan parfait and the famous vegan Breakfast Griller sandwich. Typically, this sandwich is on a bun, but we went a little wild and got it on a croissant (two thumbs up). We got our order to go and enjoyed it at the picnic tables on Ontario St.
After freshening up, we started our evening at Grand Surf Lounge for a snack and some cocktails on the patio. The tofu lettuce wraps are a delicious menu item and they paired well with our tasty cocktails.
Next, we headed into the basement of The Walper Hotel to The Walper Social to try out some of their new vegan options. Chef Grant and the team planned out some fantastic items for us. Their vegan nibble platter on the menu is full of flavour and creative combinations. We tried an amazing vegan mushroom dish that is not yet on the menu (spoiler alter: it will be soon). Their locally-focused menu has a number of labelled vegan options, paired with an incredible wine and cocktail menu and you're in for a fancy night out.
We were so full when we left TWH Social but proceeded to our final stop of the night AOK Arcade Bar. This local arcade and craft beer bar has the best vibes. They have an awesome beer menu and vegan options for food as well. We met up with more friends, played some games and had a Mario Cart smack down until we were ready to wrap up our night and head home for the evening.
There were so many other options in DTK that we would have loved to have visited, but this was an action-packed day that reminded us both why we love Downtown Kitchener so much. It was a beautiful day reconnecting with our city!
