Downtown Kitchener + Uptown Waterloo ION Launch Party

Date: Saturday, June 22

Time: noon – 10 p.m.

To celebrate the official launch of ION, the Region of Waterloo’s Light Rapid Transit service, the Downtown Kitchener and Uptown Waterloo BIAs have put together a fun-filled day and evening to enjoy with the whole family. Jump on the ION (which is offering FREE rides for the first 11 days of service) and explore all that each core area has to offer!

Special programming will be found throughout UpTown and Downtown between noon and 10 p.m., including acoustic bands, art installations, performers, free giveaways, a scavenger hunt and an outdoor concert in the Waterloo Public Square starting at 8 p.m.

11 - 2pm Cafe Pyrus hosts Blue Dot and DJ Ian Newton with free give-a-ways

11 - 8pm Multicultural Festival takes over Victoria Park, Kitchener

12 - 10pm Central Station (King & Victoria) Kids give-a-away's and enter the draw for your chance to win $500 downtown dollars.

12 - 8:45pm Kitchener Blues Festival takes over King Street W. with performances by: Matt Weidinger , Northern Social, Gavin McLeod Music, LoFi Mind and Eat a Peach (120 King St. W)

12 - 9pm Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfestt hosts Bavarian themed programming and fair with Special guests KW Miss Oktoberfest, Onkel Hans and Tante Frieda - Frederick street between King and Duke

12 -9pm DJ's, live music and free popcorn brought to you by Apollo Cinema at 10 King St. W

12 - 5:30pm Queen Street Yogaa hosts interactive activities and give-a-ways w/ DJ Spoke And Mirror - On King Street between Queen and Frederick

12 - 2pm Guided art walk with Gordon Hatt of Cafka (Contemporary Art Forum Kitchener and Area) - Meet at the newly installed Market Walk Mural on Eby Street N - wear comfortable walking shoes!

12 - 5pm Visit the The Art District Gallery where local artist James Nye will be running live painting demonstration.

12 -9pm Dimensions in Dance host all day dance at 195 King St. W

1 -5pm The Waterloo Shrine Oriental Band - Find them in DTK

2 - 7pm Full Circle Foods is proud to present a series of acoustic jams & sing-a-longs throughout the day, hosted by local musicians including Meghan MacMillan, Nicole Weinberg and Dave Pike!

2 - 9pm Matter of Taste, Kitchener hosts Face paint, body art and Gelato at their King Street location

4 -5pm Queen Street Yoga hosts Slow Flow class with DJ Spoke And Mirror - On King Street between Queen and Frederick
