Welcome to Square Peg, a dynamic, retail pop-up space showcasing active and emerging retail talent by radiating vibrancy, cultivating connections, and encouraging a sense of belonging! We are rethinking retail and turning an asset into an opportunity.
Square Peg, located at 220 King St W., adjacent to Kitchener City Hall, in the heart of Downtown Kitchener, is a retail initiative championed by the City of Kitchener Downtown Development Team, focusing on the continued advancement of the downtown retail business landscape.
This 1282-square-foot flex space offers entrepreneurs a one-month-long opportunity to test concepts in a retail environment without committing to a permanent brick and mortar space.
Pop-ups run at least five days a week, all year long bringing unique shopping experiences to DTK. Shop or become a retailer today!

Outlined below is some important information that will guide you through the process of joining our retail network. Use this checklist to ensure you've completed all necessary steps to become a Sq. Peg retailer. The DTK team will support you every step of the way, offering guidance and assistance to ensure a smooth onboarding process.

Items listed below are required to be completed before taking over the pop-up space.
- Completed Square Peg Vision
- Pop-up License
- Liability Insurance - Insurance may incur fees between $200-$500 per month.
- Signed Sq. Peg Terms and Conditions
- Pay Fees
Items listed below are minimum requirements while acting as tenants of Sq. Peg.
- One month commitment.
- Minimum operation of five days per week, with minimum six hours open per day.
- Retailers are responsible for providing staff, maintaining the space, and merchandising goods.
- Comply with all Terms & conditions outlined in permits.
1. Where can shoppers park?
Customers of Sq. Peg has several parking options in DTK.
FREE Parking
- There are more than 300 free two-hour on-street parking spaces in downtown Kitchener.
- Free 15-minute parking pickup locations on King Street
- Free parking after 5 p.m. and all day Saturday and Sunday in municipal surface parking lots

2. Does Square Peg have Wi-Fi?
Yes! Wi-fi access will be granted upon move-in.
3. What fees are there for using the space?
- Daily rental rates are $17.56 per day or $500+HST per month. Payment is due before move-in. Credit and debit are accepted, and fees can be paid in person or online.
- Pop-up Licenses have a fee of $138.00. Application and fee payment are processed online.
4. Can I sell food?
Yes, the sale of pre-packaged food is permissible if goods are produced in a Public Health inspected kitchen, but cooking or preparing food on-site is strictly prohibited.
5. Can I sell or serve alcohol?
Alcohol is permitted only with the appropriate licensing. If your opening ceremony or event involves alcohol, you must secure the necessary permits prior to the event. For more information, contact licencing@kitchener.ca.
6. Can I host events?
Yes, events are permissible, so long at the required permits are obtained, terms and conditions are adhered to, and the capacity of the pop-up shop (30 ppl) is respected.
